‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ Releases New Keyboard: New Computer Peripheral Ironically Slows Users Down

A new “Sonic the Hedgehog” keyboard has been released, and while the game is all about getting the fastest speed possible, it seems the keyboard is actually slowing down users.

Higround has released a ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ Theme Keyboard

According to Gizmodo’s story, “Sonic the Hedgehog” video games are mostly about going as fast as possible. A company called Higround recently released a Sonic-themed keyboard that can be difficult to use for people who can’t memorize where the keys are placed.

The keyboard is reportedly part of a new “capsule collection,” and the company is partnering with Sega to bring the device to life. It is reported that they want to help pay tribute to one of the most recognizable characters and one of the “most beloved consoles.”

More Merch Surrounding the Classic ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ Franchise

The collection also includes t-shirts, pants, keycap sets, bags, and even a mouse pad. The highlight, however, is the heavily themed keyboards. The most amazing part of the keyboard is the apparently Sonic-decorated keys.

The keyboard design recreates the classic Green Hill Zone right out of the “Sonic the Hedgehog” game. Another “slightly more subtle” alternative that mirrors the classic key art from “Sonic Adventure 2.”

Latest Keyboard Reportedly Puts Artwork Above Functionality

The final keyboard reportedly pays homage to the Dreamcast and features the console’s logo on the space bar as well as arrow keys that match the colors and labels directly from the controller’s action buttons. Each keyboard looks like it’s completely unlabeled and topped with artwork.

In fact, however, alphanumeric labels still appear on the side of each key for aesthetic reasons. The keyboard reportedly prioritizes form over function with its keys on the side so users can still check one at a time.

When Will the Higround Sega Collection ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ Keyboard Drop?

Even if the labels are on the side, it can be difficult to see if users are using the keyboard to type. Since the labels are found on the side, it can also take some getting used to before users fully adjust to the new keys.

The Higround Sega collection will officially launch at noon PST on August 5, and this is when buyers can get their keyboards from the company’s official website. Although the prices have not been officially revealed, Gizmodo’s article provides an estimate of the keyboard based on the prices of its other models.

When checking out Higround’s collection of other keyboards, most of them come in the price range of $135 to $145. This, however, is not a guarantee that the “Sonic the Hedgehog” keyboard will also come in the same price range, especially if it is a limited edition version.
