Evangeline Parish teams up with Attorney General’s office to combat computer crime with juveniles

EVANGELINE PARISH, La. (KLFY) – Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives assisted the Attorney General’s office in two separate ongoing investigations involving computer crimes by juveniles.

Two suspects were identified during the investigation. Evangeline Parish Sheriff Charles Guillory says he believes in using all agencies and or resources when it comes to protecting children. Guillory said his office was contacted by Attorney General‘s office after being hit by two offenders who were using computers to solicit minors in the parish. “Using criminal investigations, they found out where they lived, and we got enough probable cause to make an arrest,” Guillory said.

Louis Ray Thomas of Ville Platte was arrested and charged with one count of lewd behavior with a juvenile. Jeremy Fontenot of Mamou was also arrested and charged with one count of pornography involving minors. Thomas and Fontenot’s bond was set at $75,000.

“A lot of times, sex offenders, when the opportunity comes, that’s when they get their victim. That’s what I’m fighting for,” Guillory continued. To help that fight, Sheriff Guillory said teaching he is a sex offender coordinator in his office, whose duty it is to make personal and home visits to those on the registry.

Guillory added, “When I hired the official to do the visits, they didn’t even do that. In the beginning, it was terrible but now we got warrants. ” But duties are no longer limited to home visits. “My officer is also surfing the internet and looking for clues,” Guillory said.
