NMIMS university launches BTech programmes in computer engineering and data science

The School of Technology Management and Engineering (STME), a constituent school of Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) has launched undergraduate programs in computer engineering, computer science and data science engineering at its Jadcherla campus.

According to an official statement, the programs aim to help prepare the youth of Telangana for the latest and fastest growing technology jobs. The admission process for the programs has started.

“Until a few years ago, Telangana was facing a shortage of admissions to engineering programs. This was due to lack of job opportunities as well as the presence of vast skill gaps due to the program which is not keeping pace with the rapid changes in the IT sector,” said Sharad Mhaiskar, pro vice chancellor, NMIMS at SVKM.

He added that the trend is now reversing and there is an increase in demand for the latest engineering programs due to the almost complete adoption of digitalization, the development of state infrastructure, and the entry of multinational IT firms such as Facebook and Amazon. . “What we are most likely to see is an exponential increase in Data Science jobs. According to reports, as many as 11.5 million jobs are expected by 2026,” said Mhaiskar.

The statement further stated that the school’s BTech program in computer engineering is a comprehensive four-year course. The BTech program in computer science and engineering, data science, is also a four-year program. The programs curriculum follows international standards aiming to create a balance in mathematics, basic sciences, humanities, and computer engineering.

According to the statement, both the BTech programs are approved by the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The statement added that the courses are required in the framework of a growing number of companies in Telangana that are incorporating machine learning and data science into their business operations.

In addition, the statement added that the programs will offer internships in the industry, and the industry-based project will work to facilitate students in the form of job offers or further study and research.
