How to Add a Computer to TeamViewer

There can be multiple devices under your TeamViewer account. Once you add a new device to your account, you can manage and monitor it remotely at any time.

Adding a new computer to your TeamViewer account is fairly straightforward and the same across all platforms.

  1. Depending on your operating system, tap the “Extras” or “Preferences” tab on the three horizontal icons.
  2. Select “Options” from the drop-down menu.
  3. Click on the “General” tab.
  4. Navigate to the “Account assignment” section.
  5. Click the “Assign to account…” button.
  6. If you haven’t already signed in, enter your TeamViewer email and password in the pop-up window.
  7. Press the “Assign” button.

Each time you add a new device to your TeamViewer account, you must allow it. If this is the first time you have used your account credentials on this device, you will need to add it to your Trusted Devices list.

After entering the login details for the first time, a pop-up window will appear. The pop-up will notify you that a confirmation email has been sent to your email address. The email contains an internal device authorization link that is valid for 24 hours.

To authorize the new device, navigate to your email account and click the link within the received email. Once you click the link, the TeamViewer Management Console will open.

You can complete the console authorization process by selecting the range of trust you want to assign to the device. To do this, navigate to the drop-down menu under “Do you want to trust this device or the IP address permanently?” question. Click the down-arrow to expand the options and select one of the following.

  • “Yes, this device,” if you want to grant permanent access to that specific device.
  • “Yes, this IP address,” if you trust all devices from the local network.
  • “No, only once,” to allow only a one -time pairing.

If you have selected the desired option, tap “Trust” to complete the process. After seeing the “Device successfully added” message, you can sign in with the new device.

How to Add a Computer to TeamViewer Without a Password

If you are connecting to a new device through TeamViewer, you will usually need to enter a password to allow the connection. Even if this feature is put in place for security reasons, there are situations where it is not necessary. In fact, if you need to easily access a computer when no one is on the other side, the password can be a barrier.

Fortunately, TeamViewer offers an option to connect to a device without the need for a personal or random password. This feature is called Easy Access. Once activated, all you have to do is log in to your account and access the desired device.

Before activating Easy Access, make sure the device you want to connect to is assigned to your TeamViewer account. After that, follow these steps to enable Easy Access:

  1. Depending on your operating system, click the “Extras” or “Preferences” tab on the three horizontal icons.
  2. Select “Options” from the drop-down menu.
  3. Tap the “Security” tab.
  4. Navigate to the “Unattended access” section.
  5. Click the “Grant Easy Access” checkbox to activate it.
  6. Click “OK.”

If you are concerned about possible security risks, you should know that Easy Access is very secure. Only the approved account can access the device without a password, and the account itself is protected with two-factor authentication.

How to Add a Computer to TeamViewer for Unattended Access

Users who regularly connect to a device remotely can benefit from the Unattended Access feature. It allows you to access a device at any time without having to enter a password.

Before setting up the Unattended Access feature, you need to ensure the following.

  • TeamViewer is scheduled to launch at launch. As a result, there is no need to manually run the software every time the computer boots. This way, it just needs to be connected to a power source and the internet, and you can access it.
  • The remote computer is assigned to your TeamViewer account.
  • The remote computer is added to your Trusted Devices list.

Once everything is set up, follow these steps to enable unsupervised access to that device.

  1. Navigate to the “Unattended Access” section of the landing screen.
  2. Check the “Grant Easy Access” checkbox.
  3. If prompted, type the account password.

How to Add a Computer via IP in TeamViewer

TeamViewer offers the option to establish a remote control session within your local area network using the IP address. This option can be helpful as it does not require internet usage to connect to your desired device.

If you want to add a computer using its IP address, you must first enable future LAN connections.

  1. Tap the gear icon in your TeamViewer application to launch Settings.
  2. Go to the “General” tab.
  3. Navigate to the “Network Settings” section.
  4. Open the drop-down menu next to “Incoming LAN connections.”
  5. Choose “accept” or “accept exclusively.”
  6. Click “OK” in the lower-right corner of the window to complete the process.

If you choose to accept the exclusive, you can only connect via IP address, as the app will be disconnected from the internet. If the option is selected, you can see the internal IP address of the computer in the main window of the TeamViewer app.

If you have already obtained the IP address, go to the Remote Control page of TeamViewer. Follow these steps to connect to a device using the IP address.

  1. Enter the IP address in the “Enter Partner ID” field.
  2. Tap “Connect.”
  3. If prompted, type the TeamViewer password on the remote computer.

Alternatively, if you choose to accept future LAN connections but not exclusively, the TeamViewer app will remain online. You can connect to a device with the TeamViewer ID and the IP address.

In this case, TeamViewer will not display the IP address of the computer. However, you have to find it yourself.

To find the internal IP address of a Windows computer, do the following.

  1. Press “Win + R” to launch the “Run” box.
  2. Write “cmd.”
  3. Press “Enter.”
  4. At the Command Prompt, type “ipconfig.”
  5. Find the IP address next to “IPv4 Address.”

The process is just as straightforward on a Mac computer.

  1. Click on the Apple menu.
  2. Go to “System Preferences.”
  3. Tap the “Network” icon.
  4. Select your network connection from the menu on the left.
  5. Find your IP address under “Connected status.”
