Here’s a delicious looking custom keycap design, adding faders, knobs, and synth-y visuals to your much-desired mechanical keyboard.
The project is listed as being in the design stage but there are already a lot of nice photos in a sample run. I mean, should it be a good idea for your computer keyboard to trigger different knob and fader positions? Can’t answer that. Does it look beautiful? Yes. Can it make you think of other ideas? I mean, yeah, I already know where the letters of the alphabet are, thanks, and it’s not a typewriter, so…
And then there’s any crank-style round knob on the high right side…
The project is the work of designer Max Voltar [mvkb], the nom de plum (nom de keys?) of a Tim in Belgium. Production is from EQUALPBT aka qPBT in short, who says they use dye sublimation to print on blank lids for high speed and short cost. Keycap connoisseurs might nitpick on that, so they have a complete quality disclaimer. (“Wall Warping” sounds like a nice track name. I can live without perfection.)
Of course, now that we’ve avoided the topic, then what might inspire me is this set. Constantly monitored Star Wars and thought “what exactly do I want to be a TIE pilot.”
This is Cherry-profile, MX mountable.
Now that I’ve opened this can of worms / bottles of keycaps, I hope to hear from some keycap experts in the comments so – fire when ready.
