2022 British Open odds: Surprising PGA picks, golf predictions by computer model that nailed the Masters

The fourth and final major of the 2021-22 PGA Tour season will begin when the 2022 Open Championship begins on Thursday, July 14. The world’s top players will gather at the Old Course in St. Louis. Andrews, where Collin Morikawa will try to defend his British Open title. He will join a loaded 2022 Open Championship field that includes Masters winner Scottie Scheffler, PGA Championship winner Justin Thomas and US Open champion Matthew Fitzpatrick.

Caesars Sportsbook listed Rory McIlroy as the 9-1 favorite in its 2022 Open Championship odds, followed closely by Jon Rahm at 11-1. Five other golfers will go 20-1 or lower, including Scheffler (12-1) and Thomas (14-1). Other famous names at the 2022 British Open odds include Jordan Spieth (22-1), Cameron Smith (25-1), Dustin Johnson (28-1) and Tiger Woods (40-1). Before locking in your 2022 Open Championship selections or entering any PGA DFS tournaments on sites like DraftKings and FanDuel, be sure to check out PGA Tour predictions and betting advice from the proven golf model on SportsLine.

SportsLine’s proprietary model, founded by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been very hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020. In fact, it has raised more than $ 9,500 to its best bets since that point, nailing the tournament after tournament.

McClure’s model includes Thomas in the best bets to win the 2022 PGA Championship. That bet hit +1600, and for the entire tournament, McClure’s best bet came back nearly $ 800. At the 2022 Masters, McClure’s model was on Scheffler’s entire win in his first career major championship heading into the weekend.

In addition, McClure’s best bet includes Collin Morikawa winning directly at the 2021 Open Championship, even if he’s a big 40-1 long shot. The model was also Rahm’s overall win (10-1) in his first career major championship win at the 2021 U.S. Open. Rahm is two strokes from the lead towards the end of the week, but the model is still planning him as the winner.

This same model also nailed a stunning eight majors to enter over the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen many returns.

Now that the 2022 British Open golf tournament is approaching, SportsLine has simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results are shocking. Go to SportsLine today to see the planned leaderboard.

Top 2022 Open Championship predictions

A big shocker demanded by the model at the Open Championship 2022: Collin Morikawa (18-1), the defending British Open champion and one of the tournament’s favorites, stumbled and didn’t even make it into the top five. Morikawa finished fifth at the U.S. Open and Masters, but he was not found on the PGA Championship leaderboard, finishing outside of the top 50.

Last year’s Open Championship remained Morikawa’s last win, and while he started this tour season with five consecutive top-10s, success has been quick since then. In his last 10 tournaments, he has finished more outside the top 50 (four) than inside the top 10 (three). His biggest factor was his short game, which went from more than usual to one of the worst on the tour. He ranks 180th out of 204 tour players in strokes taken: around-the-green (-.307), and that weakness can be magnified on a course with more than 100 bunkers.

Another surprise: Viktor Hovland, a 28-1 long shot, made a strong run for the title. He is a target for anyone looking for a big salary. Hovland struggled at the U.S. Open, missing the cut for the second time this season. However, the 24-year-old Norwegian has proven he can get up well. Hovland missed the cut at the WM Phoenix Open in February, but it was followed by three consecutive top-10 finishes.

In addition, Hovland entered the Open Championship 2022 ranked fifth in birdie average (4.42), seventh in strokes taken: near the green (.792) and 23rd in placing average (1.727), three statistics which makes him a solid value choice for your 2022 Open Championship bets, according to the model.

How to make 2022 Open Championship picks

The model targets two more golfers with a probability of 22-1 or higher to make a shocking run. Anyone who supports these tall shots can hit it big. You can only see the model selections here.
