The deal is reportedly an “expansion of the Caillou universe,” with 52 new 11-minute episodes, along with five previously announced 44-minute “special Caillou families.”

“This is another example of how we are restoring treasured brands from our evergreen library,” WildBrain president Josh Scherba said in a statement. “For more than 25 years, preschoolers have been associated with Caillou because they find themselves in stories that are so relevant.”

The original, traditional 2D animated film “Caillou”, based on the long -running picture book series, began filming in French in Canada in 1997, before being translated into English.

New episodes were made until 2010, and the series continued to air on networks, including PBS in the US, until 2021.

Despite initial praise from parents, children and critics, over time, “Caillou” has become one of the most polarizing children’s movies on TV, with National Post article in 2017 called it, “possibly the most ridiculed children’s program in the world.”

On Twitter, that sentiment appears to be dominant, as users complain about the property’s new computer animated look, as well as the fact that it’s all rebooted.
